i built a real clever sub box out of concrete form tube. They nested so the ports were concentric to the subwoofer. Anyways, another way to hide your subs backsides is to make a ring from forming tube that is tight to the sub then carpet over the back. Space efficient and hides the subs.
oh, come to think of it, you should consider that subwoofer for your build. Aura 8” flat subwoofer. I had a motormouthed ECA guy amazed at the output. “You mean you’re getting that much $&@@ bass out of an 8”, and 175 $&@“ing watts of power steve?” They are cheap too. There are s couple models each with subtle differences in the T/S so model more than one part number.
they are THIN.

This one would be COOL to invert mount to protect the spider, then the basket is the grille that gets exposed when you flip up the trunk floor. Sexy.
did i mention they are thin and efficient?

Touche' GEO! I'd like to see that box you built White rabbit, I've used concrete formers for bass tubes, but not what you did. With covering the hole in the back, wouldn't that effect the air coming out of it for the cooling of the coil?
I meant to say how will you make it removable? Those magnetic terminal cups could come in handy here too?
So I also did some searching to find those Aura drivers and came up empty handed...
But somehow THAT Google rabbit hole revealed these to me - I don't know if it's because I recently bought those two Earthquake passive radiators, but you know how these algorithms work today.
If you were looking for a full-range 6.5 I wouldn't even... but the more I stare at these, the more they seem to possibly make sense - the price is sure right for a pair:

I say that because in a lot of ways they look like those Bose units, at the very least they certainly are shallow @ 1.75".
The specs are here and look a bit interesting:

The 6.5" pair actually have a very high Qes and Qts... almost crazy high, but that in a way makes them more ideal for a door install than an enclosure install. The other SWS subwoofers in the line aren't that way, so the optimist in me would like to think that was intentionally by design.
That 15mm one-way Xmax is probably actually Xmech, but still for a bass driver that is a shallow woofer, Xmech definitely also becomes a concern, and that's plenty.
Just food for thought. I know this is a bit of an off-brand suggestion, and again if you weren't just looking to bridge the midrange to subwoofer I wouldn't even...
But the price is right, the specs look right, you possibly wouldn't even need a spacer ring (which can be a fundamental for stage width)...
So after a day of having them open in a browser tab I decided I wouldn't feel good about myself if I didn't at least see if they were intriguing to you for those doors.
It's always a gamble, meh stuff can be meh...
...but I love when I stumble upon a magical, inexpensive, and unexpected combination that overachieves for a particular unique need. Nothing better than years of fun making people's eyebrows raise and jaws drop. If that's the case here, who knows.
Trust me, I'm not a gambler. In all the years I went to CES and SEMA the running joke was over about 12 of those trips to Vegas I probably gambled a grand total of $100 across all those trips. Interested in what you think of those specs for a 6.5, since that does mitigate the gamble.
