2019 F150 - Sub Stage/Amplifier Choice
Hey guys, I post a lot but I always try and get some input from others to see their views.
I have the 19 F150 Supercrew cab and have been looking into the TW3 10s or 12s depending on what setup I do. MTI Acoustics states that you can fit 2 of the 12s ported under the seat only if it's the D4s, but not the D8s which I'd need the 8s to get full potential out of the PDX-V9.
Main question is - what would you do? Just do the 2 10s ported or 2 12s sealed, sell the PDX-V9 and get 2 amps to have more power for the subs / get one to wire to 1 ohm to get the D4s, or anything else? I'm kinda hard stuck on the TW3s because I have heard nothing but greatness out of them but scared the PDX won't be enough power.
Thanks!

Why do you need the dual 8ohm to get full potential out of a pdx-v9? It outputs the same amount at 2 ohms or 4ohms. Two dual 4 ohms can be wired indvidually in series or parallel and then the opposite together.
So if you run individually in series, that would give you 8ohms, then parallel together would give you 4 ohms final.
If you run parallel individual that would give you 2 ohms, then series together would give you 4 ohms final.
I have a pdx-v9 that I have running 2 stereo integrity bm mkv's and it will rattle my side mirrors. It is roughly 550w of power. To double that to 1100w would only give me a 3db increase in volume.

Thought about it in a way to wire it to 2 ohm to help combat rise which I know at this volume isn't that serious but trying to get the most out of the equipment.

I am not sure what you mean by combat rise......But....the pdx amps put out the exact same at 2 ohms or 4 ohms......

Fighting against box rise. Rising from 2 to 4 ohm during playing compared to rising from 4 to 8 ohm.

I think you are worried about something that you don't really understand....

According to JL 250 watts each should be plenty for those tw3 and it’s likely the Alpine amplifier does more into 2 ohms vs 4 ohms even though they are rated the same which is often the case with most amplifiers, even with regulated power supplies. With a ported enclosure you’ll get more output with less power and if you tune low and take out the typical cabin gain around 45-50 Hz you’ll get less distortion by limiting cone excursion so better SQ at high volume can be attained. Also you’ll get more SPL from two ported 10’s vs two sealed 12’s for sure overall and at the tuning frequency. Just make sure you build the ported box correctly. JL Audio gives you a decent guideline on that on their website. I wouldn’t change the amplifier especially if you can get two 10” tw3 ported subwoofers to fit that only need 250 watts. It’s better to go with more cone area over more power with less cone area for less distortion and more spl.
