Isolated DC power supply ...?
Try as I may, I cannot rid the system of the annoying ticking sound and light humming that I get. I get it while the engine is off but key is in the on position (not started though) and I attribute it to some noisy electrical components like the electric fuel pump and other pieces under the hood. When started, it's even much worse, getting the high frequency whine associated with engine RPM's. I've tried many different things. It's not audible when I use just the head unit. However, when I use a line driver to step up the signal voltage, it's certainly audible and quite annoying. I was thinking that I might want to look into an isolated dc/dc power supply to feed the head unit and line driver/dsp ...
Does this sound like something that might correct the issue?
I found this unit that David Navone produces, but it seems a bit pricey for what it is. http://davidnavone.com/product/n-ip1...-power-supply/

Maybe something like this? http://store.mp3car.com/DCDC_USB_Int..._p/pwr-047.htm
also, I wonder if a capacitor run parallel to the constant power would filter out the buzz and pops?
Re: Isolated DC power supply ...?
^^ That looks pretty sweet actually. I didn't see it stated though that it was an isolated ground unit. Did you?
As for the cap...I've heard of that before. If I had one I could try wiring it in to see if it filters the noise out, but I don't.

It's not stated...but it's used to power carPC parts, so I'm assuming it is.
Re: Isolated DC power supply ...?
I'm almost betting that it is being induced on the signal line... I thought that running my audio lines around the same path of the factory harness would be a tidy-neat way to do things...... Boy, was that a bad move.
Re: Isolated DC power supply ...?
You got to keep em separated

I used fiber from headunit to processor in the trunk, breaks the copper link

The baller way to go..... I do the same thing in my shop between the computers (that are used for things that audio hates) and my DA converter. The #1 sure-fire way to rid yourself of ground loops and RF/EM induced noise.

Do you break it down on each end then, or are you lucky enough to have optical out/in ? I have a Mosconi 6to8 which has the digital inputs. I suppose if I used that in conjunction with a HU that has an optical out I'd be GTG, but that involves replacing shit. :/
