Next POSSIBLE victim....

Was tinkering around last night and popped he hood to check the fluids... Then realized that the fuse box under the hood came apart VERY easily.... Well by now you should know where that immediately leads me.

I know this does not fit the mold for many here but my installs are VERY simple and utilitarian... I was pretty stoked to find a fully wired blank fuse slot with a dummy fuse in it labeled "B+" and wouldn't you know, it leads to a bigass lug in the box with a nut already on it, just waiting for me. The harness loom has plenty of room in it for wire also...

Dunno why, but I'm pretty stoked about that.

I like installs where you can't even see the power wire under the hood. I always at a minimum try to loom that wire from the battery. If there is factory loom to run inside, that's even better.

it was the tan/clear shit that knocks a buzzard off of a shitwagon... Not the white watr-based stuff they normally put in with kits. Tube was not labeled.

Seems to be a knock-off of the brown 3M glue JBL used/uses. Cant remember the part number offhand.

Well, the Dakota went away on a trailer yesterday, sad to see it go, learned a bit more about it and it will remian in the family....

The new owner wants noting to do with audio. I nabbed he sub you all saw here out of it.. I also grabbed the amp yesterday...

And older MTX Pro400X5

I think I may sell it and pick up something different, it's fairly large.

I have the birthsheet here, it's wildly underrated. Paint looks goofy though... odd discoloration.

I too love a simple utilitarian install. No fancy hardware under the hood and don't give a crap how unflashy my wiring is going to the amps as long as it's safe and adequate. I had my hood popped at Erin's one day because of the battery charger being used to keep the battery topped off. I'm sure at least a couple people walked by and had to look again to see the red 4g wire wrapped in black loom going through the simple black grommet in the firewall. Only other car audio related thing under there was an old RF MAXI fuse holder with 100a fuse zipped to the loomed bundle by the fuse box.

Opinions on these?

They seem to get good reviews, Kinda leaning to the 628's due to price.

I'm thinking Chevy mafuggin truck/American mafuggin speaker... brand

Door panels have been off, I tinted the windows last weekend. Super easy to remove, that is totally cool.... found my upper door panel rattle also...

Must have slid into the door card off of the dash, bought it from a carpenter.

I've found recent Harman products to be excessively bright (JBL/Infinity) The reviews state that about the infinity but not the JBL. The JBL also has a LP and a HP for the crossover (albeit probably only 6dB/oct) but the infinity has a simple HPF for the tweet while the woofer plays all the way out.

Having a full crossover, even if it is simple, to me, means that at least SOME thought was put into the design.

This IS a budget build....

What about Polk? The db series coaxials and components have always sounded pretty good to me and not bright either. Al ran the db comps iirc for years in his Element and I was always amazed at how easy they were on the ears.

A set of Late 90's dB series with the silk tweet BNIB PLZ.

It has to be VERY VERY low key..

I bought the truck from my father in law for pennies in the pretense that he can drive it with guidance... (not that he is a bad driver, but he has the tendency to do things WITH it that he should not do at his age, he needs a hand.)

One of "them new boom machines" ain't gonna cut it... But he is full aware of my tendencies, and I have caught him enjoying some tunes at the crib when they check on the house when we are away. And it has 3 of 4 stock speakers blown with an AM/FM radio......

Everything has to be simple, utilitarian, and stock....

Which is how I build every rig anyway.
