Jay's 2015 Mazda 6i Touring build thread

It was Jacob Brown. He has it on a euro style plate on his V6 Civic. I didn't get that one, but I'm considering it. lol

Before I ever posted anything . . .
Anywhere , I'd always turn around when someone said: Hey ... Asshole ! ! ! [TBI's] ?

So, end of last year (IIRC) I decided I wanted to rebuild my sail panels. So, I traded my existing pods to Richard Hall for his GB10 mounting hardware....
and then nothing happened. I've had them attached to the factory sail panels with industrial strength velcro-ish stuff. Well, I finally thought I'd start working on them,
since I'll want to compete once the weather warms up.

I went out to the car with my digital caliper and measured the diameter of the tweeter body and the outer ring. Inner: 43.9mm Outer 49.9mm
While I measuring, a friend of mine (who happens to be my AF dealer) called and when I stepped away to answer the phone, the door closed on the tweeter, between
the door and the dash and crushed the grill (and the dome). Luckily, after I removed the grill, the dome popped back out and the grill was easily repairable, but
my luck with damaging AF speakers is holding. Sigh.

Anyway, I was looking to see if I could find a plastic tubing that could serve as the basis for my new pods. On Amazon, I found acrylic tubing 50mm OD and 44mm ID, 10" long x 2.
It arrived today, and if it weren't for the allen head screws it would be perfect. So, a little work with a file (or heat) and I think I'll have a good start...Yay.

Well, I made a change. I pulled my Acoustic Elegance IB12AU-4's and replaced it with a Stereo Integrity SQL12D2.
The box isn't finished (appearance wise, I have some ideas.) I wanted to try it out before I finished it off.
The box design is basically the box design that Jason Carter designed, but adjusted to fit in my trunk better.
2.2cu ft, tuned to 22Hz. Double 3/4" face, Steve Meade TCR-1 terminal cups.

I'm also thinking of switching up amps, but my plan would work better with a 2ohm midbass. Only ones I can really find are
Stevens Audio. Anyone have any experience, or other options?

I paid the car off last month, so I'm considering an update of the system.

the stevens audio midbasses seem to be more tailored towards higher sensitivity horn applications. probably worth asking mic wallace his experience.

might be easier to stick to bridged channels and a 4-ohm midbass.

What's the plan for the AE 12's now that they aren't in this car?

Probably going to sell them. I don't have another project that requires them. They're in pretty good shape (Cosmetically 8.5-9/10) and work perfectly. I mainly listen to Audiobooks, so they don't see anything close to abuse.

I had planned to ask him about it. I'm thinking of switching from the PDX amps, to Arc X2 1200.6 and 1100.1. If I can run a 2 ohm midbass, I will end up with more power than I have now.
I'm not tied to the Steves midbasses, it was just the first thing I found that would run at 2 ohms from a reputable company. I'm still looking.

Would CDT Audio 2ohm midbasses potentially fit the bill? I'm not sure if their sound quality is on par with what your goals are. I've been eyeing them for the potential value for my build.

Btw, I'm moving from Denver to Ohio at the end of April. I'm a noob SQ aspiring guy and would love to hear a demo sometime and pick your brain on install and tuning tips and tricks if you're open to it. I've been really impressed with your skill and build quality on your Mazda 6. As I have the budget for it, I'm going to install a system in my 2016 Mazda 3. Send me a message if you have a minute. Kudos on your awesome build!!
