I'm thinking it's sitting out farther than it was before.

I was too, but I haven't noticed any difference in sound. The grills are about a 1/4" off the face of the driver with an 1/8" round over.

Well I've decided to scratch the wooden trim rings! 
Turns out the construction was not very well suited for the car environment. After just a few hot hours up on the dash the warped badly! One of them even cracked.
I could rebuild them and instead of using MDF for the mounting ring I could use another piece of mahogany and fit the grain in opposing directions. That would solve any warping issues. But on afterthought I don't want to draw that much attention to my system anyways. At least the grills on the dash pods can match those on the door pods now.

Just started a new job Tues. I'll be working straight 10s till the 4th the. After that weekend a small turnaround kicks off so it'll be a couple 80 hour weeks. Which is good cause daddy is hongry!
