Big Al's Garaj Mahal

Ditto. Al, if you don't mind my asking, what does a project like this cost from soup to nuts? I assume no drywall or finishing outside of them hanging doors and such right? No insulation either, or yes? And simple siding and shingle roof?

I ask because the wife and I are looking for a house and one of my absolute musts is to have a garage and work space. Being able to build one if the property allows for it would be another option. I just have no clue on the cost involved. Thanks and good luck with your (badass) project!

Honestly, I'm sot quite sure yet. My plan was just to build this as the money came available although I have $8k set aside to start with. The grading, footing and slab will be $3100 by itself and I have another guy working up an estimate to frame it.

I'll keep a running tally as it progresses, but I'm hoping it will be around $10k total :ohwell:

Cool, thanks. $10K seems reasonable for something of that size. That's about what I was hoping it would be if we decided to go that route.

Are you insulating? doing any HVAC?

I probably wouldn't (on my end) to keep costs down. Plus, for what it would cost you could probably get a lift put in ;)

Only have the charger......

how are you gonna handle the grading of the high-side? Gutter and pray?

I typed gutter and pray after I realized that it was never really gonna freeze.....

Gonna have 4 rows of block and then 8' wall on top of that :D

Treat the block, install French drain, backfill, and boom!

The slab is level, right? That first pick makes it look wacky.

Congrats on the. What a sweet luxury it will be to have large, dedicated workshop.

Does your budget include insulation and hvac?

I'd like to insulate my shop this fall and add walls, cabinets, and HVAC. I need to come up with a budget I guess.

Sent from my Springfield XD with love!

The way I look at is that since it is a garage, after the exterior walls are up, the doors work, and you have done temp power then look at it for a month of two.

After it is up your plans for usage and space will change and you will have a better idea for work flow, power placement, etc.

It's not often that you get s blank canvass, may as well take advantage of it.

Nice al, ill be cursing you in the back of my head while I'm working in my driveway and back porch! I'm jealous.
