I was able to attend EMMA/WCA competition yesterday. It was nice to see some familiar faces and listen to a handful of competitors' cars, though I didn't compete myself and have no plans to.
I parked next to my old friend Vin Quach's Mercedes since he's really the only person I know in the scene. He was first to get a demo of my van and he told me I should enter in the day's competition. His constructive criticisms for my setup were: my tweeters are lacking (which I knew) and my bottom end is too hot for competition, which I also knew.
He told a few of his competitor friends to take a listen, which created a domino of demos for my van. Most looked at the ugly duckling van was a little reluctant, but seemed to have left happy. Even Paul Adams with a SI 24" in his Prius said it was an experience. He thinks the large space of the van has a very positive affect on how you experience the bass from the sub. It's like when a small car gets more bass when you roll the windows down, but you get that in the van without rolling the window down, which you can still do get even more bass.
So other than my tweets, I'm quite happy with where my setup is. I went to the meet to get a baseline of how my setup may compare with competitors, and I found out my poor bastard SQ does alright.
Here's some random pictures just because:
TonyUSAs Tesla
Jeremy Mullin's Prius, I forgot to get a picture of his trunk with the IB 18" and TRU amps:
