I'm hoping the we, as a community, could help out Erin Hardison (erinh) in his endeavor to get back into independent speaker testing. He's not being sponsored by anyone, he's simply doing it out of love for the hobby, and he's paying for it out of his own pocket. I know he has asked for donations, but asking for money is hard to do...especially when you're as humble as Erin. He already has the equipment en route, and he's going to be building a testing room in his attic. I know the equipment alone is uber-expensive, and I'm sure he's going to do the testing space up right, because he's anal *snickers*
So what's the big deal about speaker testing? As we all know, not all companies give out proper parameters on their drivers. Some companies advertise "wishful thinking" numbers, where as some give out no numbers at all, but just tell how big to build the box. Seeing real data helps you determine if a driver is right for your situation, and also if it's a good value. Furthermore, it helps keep the manufacturers honest...if several drivers from company X perform much differently that the advertised parameters, it makes you question the company's truthfulness for the rest of its line. Some drivers might be a diamond in the rough, where others turn out to be highly-polished bantha poodoo.
So in general, I wanted to start this thread as a rally cry, asking the forum members to donate a few bucks to Erin's project. By helping him, we're helping the audio community as whole.
