All of a sudden this OT-dominated Live Feed thing seems no longer an issue.
All of a sudden this OT-dominated Live Feed thing seems no longer an issue.
Funny how that works
Yeah, that makes sense.
So here's the deal...the software came with a generic Activity Feed enabled, but it was somewhat limited in functionality. I installed a plugin for the Live Feed that we use, and it's AJAX-based which automatically updates every couple of minutes.
I found out a way to remove certain forums from the built-in activity feed's 'new posts' and 'new threads' section, but I can't figure out how to remove it from the Live Feed plugin. I was able to do a somewhat-workaround by installing a different plugin which allows users to ignore certain threads or whole forums altogether. It doesn't prevent new OT posts from showing up on the live feed, but it does prevent it from showing up when you press the "New Posts" button.
If you go to your settings in the upper right, then click Thread Forum and Ignore Lists, you will see three options. If you check New Posts or Today's posts, they won't show up when you click the "New Posts" button. If you check the Forum Home and Forum Display, the ignored forums or threads won't even be displayed in the forum list.
To ignore a forum (or a particular thread), click the "Forum Tools" (or "Thread Tools") dropdown menu, and click "Ignore"
I will continue to explore a proper fix.
Okay, after futzing with this thing, I finally got it upgraded to a version where I can exclude certain forums...the things I do for you doofuses
The ignore plugin is still active if you just want to ignore certain areas altogether.
Should I add the Introductions sub-forum to the excluded list also?
Thank you, Alan!
Yes, I think it makes sense to exclude Introductions posts from the Live Feed as well.
Those so inclined can subscribe to the Introductions Forum, so as not to miss an opportunity to welcome a new member.

Just noticed that the Live Feed seems to have been lengthened as well.
I set it to where newly started threads show up, but new replies don't...that way you can see when a new member does an intro, but the feed isn't clogged up with the "welcome" replies
Perfect!
