Towers Reloaded-help me choose a mid

I've had a pair of Optimus STS-8 towers for ~25 years. After trading the truck, I had these https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.co...e-rear-chambe/ (thanks Glenn) and Eton 8-472 hex (thanks Daniel) that will not work in new ride. So...

They sound pretty good now, but 25 y/o mid is a little weak. They are single airspace (1.5 cu^ft, tuned to 24). Need a budget friendly mid option. Current is 5", but I can modify for smaller if needed. TIA for any input
A mid-range speaker is a loudspeaker driver that reproduces sound in the frequency range from 250 to 2000 Hz. It is also known as a squawker.
I love Morel drivers. The MDM55 is likely a great choice for the sound. However, with a 4.33" flange on tweet, prefer a bigger driver for the visual aspect. Also, price point is a factor. Budget dictates I come in at about half that price.

The CDM880 is an impressive driver, but 4 ohm and price point are deal breakers.

I've been happy with my HiVi 3"...I'm assuming the 5" would be nice as well https://www.parts-express.com/hivi-m...dbass--297-436

    Nice Al !
A shielded magnet structure allows the HiVi M5N to be incorporated easily into audio/video speaker applications. The driver may be used in a small closed box as a midrange unit in a three-way system, and good extension (50 Hz) in a vented enclosure guarantees great performance in a two-way two-driver or MTM configured system. Recommended crossover frequency region for a two-way system design is 2-5 kHz.

Optimum Cabinet Size (determined using BassBox 6 Pro High Fidelity suggestion)

    • Sealed Volume0.1 ft.³
    • Sealed F3102 Hz
    • Vented Volume0.31 ft.³
    • Vented F355 Hz

both those are interesting. One question, would I need to create an enclosure to separate them from the woofer's airspace?

So, can you define "budget" for us? Are we talking $50/pair? $200/pair?

And 8 ohm is the requirement?

I'm assuming you'll be designing your own crossover or will you go active?

And, yes, I'd separate the mid from the woofer enclosure.

I would like to be in at under $100 for a pair.

I'm still using xover from the Optimus STS-8.

I'm a complete noob at midranges, only ones I ever bought came in these cabs. I assume I need 8 ohm because tweet and woofer are

Use a multi-meter to measure ohms for speaker [ if 8 ohm - nominal impedance ] replace with same and using crossover will be fine.

the cubic footage , 1/10 should encompass the midrange speaker but not include woofer [ separate spaces ]

    likin this one !
