A Liberian man who arrived by ambulance at a Dallas hospital with symptoms of Ebola sat for "several hours" in a room with other patients before being put in isolation, and the nurses who treated him wore flimsy gowns and had little protective gear
Among other things, they said that Duncan "was left for several hours, not in isolation, in an area where other patients were present."
When a nurse supervisor demanded that he be moved into isolation, the supervisor "faced resistance from other hospital authorities," the nurses said.
"There was no advanced preparedness on what to do with the patient. There was no protocol; there was no system.
The nurses statements come as an additional 76 healthcare workers who were involved in the treatment of Duncan are being watched for symptoms of Ebola

The nurse, Amber Vinson, 29, flew from Cleveland to Dallas on Monday, the day before she was diagnosed with Ebola.

__________________________________________________ ___________________________BOSTON - A majority of Americans believe the Ebola virus can be spread by sneezing or coughing and more than a third fear that they or someone in their immediate family may contract the deadly disease in the next year, according to a Harvard University poll.
Some 85 percent of people who responded to the Harvard School of Public Health/SSRS poll said they thought the disease spread through sneezing or coughing, despite the fact that the World Health Organization regards that type of transmission as unlikely.

When a friend called Togar Johnson from a bus stop last month to ask for a lift, Johnson made what he considered a difficult but prudent decision: He said no.
The friend had recently returned to the United States from Ebola-ravaged Liberia, and Johnson believed contact with him was just too risky.

DALLAS—Political leaders warned Wednesday that there could be more cases of Ebola here in coming days, as this city continues to feel the consequences of a local hospital’s problem-plagued effort to treat the first case of the disease diagnosed in the U.S.

3) You can get Ebola through sex with an Ebola patient. So you could get Ebola on a plane if you join the Mile High Club with an Ebola-infected individual. The virus has been able to live in semen up to 82 days after a patient became symptomatic, which means sexual transmission — even with someone who has survived the disease for months — is possible.
4) You can get Ebola through contact with an infected surface. Though Ebola is easily killed with disinfectants like bleach, if it isn't caught, it can live outside the body on, say, an arm rest or table. In bodily fluids, like blood, the virus can survive for several days. So if someone with infectious Ebola gets his or her diseased bodily fluids on a surface that you touch — an airplane seat, for example — and then you put your hands in your mouth and eyes, you could get Ebola on an airplane.

__________________________________________________ ___________________________Haas researched the incubation period for Ebola in previous outbreaks in Congo, Zaire and Uganda. He found “12 percent of the time, an individual case will have a greater incubation time than 21 days,” according to the study. When looking at data of the 1995 Congo outbreak, Haas found a quarantine period of as high as 31 days is more appropriate.
According to Haas, a decision made on the appropriate incubation time for Ebola must be based on a balance between costs and benefits. Though, Haas noted “no quarantine time will provide absolute assurance of no residual risk from contagion.”

The Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital worker, who did not have direct contact with now deceased Liberian patient Thomas Eric Duncan but could have processed his bodily fluids 19 days ago, left on a cruise from Galveston on Sunday, the worker and a companion voluntarily isolated themselves in their cabin, and U.S. officials are arranging for the ship to return to the country."We are working with the cruise line to safely bring them back to the United States out of an abundance of caution."
The person left the country before being notified of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) updated requirement for active monitoring, the statement said.
