    Re: Psyko's 2007 Mustang

Got some midbass drivers to replace the stock 8's in the doors. I found a good deal on a pair of used ZR800-CW

Cool thing with these is they are as close to a drop in replacement as I can get. The only down side I see is JL recommends .75cu ft for a sealed enclosure, the sealed portion of my door cards is around .41cu ft so I'm only at ~58% of the recommended volume. Do you think the limited volume will be a problem?

frequency range will move up on the speakers or drivers [ can't move air , when there is no air to move ].

Hence, why sealed enclosures play not as low as ported [ one is small and one is 3 times as large, generally ]

    intended example :
Optimum Cabinet Size (determined using BassBox 6 Pro High Fidelity suggestion)

    • Sealed Volume0.82 ft.³
    • Sealed F3...99 Hz
    • Vented Volume2.23 ft.³
    • Vented F3...48 Hz

    Re: Psyko's 2007 Mustang

Octave: An interval in the audio frequency spectrum equal to one-half or double of the starting value. One octave above 400 Hz is 800 Hz, one octave below 400 Hz is 200 Hz

    99 minus 48 equals 51.

An octave is equal to a halving or doubling. [ 51 doubled is equal to 102 ( close to 99 )].

Which lets you see with less space you give up some "lower notes" that will be played with authority.

Sound intensity drops at F3 by - 3 dB or can also be seen as a low end roll off point.

A little stuffing material can make an enclosure seem up to 1/3 bigger than it actually is.

    Similar placement in-door [ http://www.jlaudio.com/galleries/Mob...Mustang/702847 ]

    Re: Psyko's 2007 Mustang

    Found some info ...

    APPLICATION INFORMATION

The ZR800-CW is a powerful 8-inch component woofer designed to operate in automotive sound systems reproducing the frequency range between 30 Hz and 400 Hz. It can be used in infinite baffle or enclosed applications as an extremely potent, dedicated midbass Speaker or as a full woofer.

Active Filtering is Recommended: When used as a mid-bass speaker, we recommend the use of dedicated amplifier channels and active filtering (electronic crossovers) with the ZR800-CW. The ZR800-CW maintains smooth frequency response characteristics up to 500 Hz, so it is advisable to cross it over with mid-range speakers at 300-400 Hz to ensure a smooth transition. Pushing it higher than this range may result in uneven response which may require equalization to correct.

As a dedicated mid-bass speaker operating above 50 Hz (with active filtering) the ZR800-CW can be safely operated at Power levels momentarily exceeding 200 watts per woofer. When operating below 50 Hz as a true woofer, Power should be limited to no more than 125 watts per woofer in infinite baffle applications.

The doors don't rattle much at all I do get some resonance if I raise the LPF on the JL's too much. JL's are playing from 50hz/36db slope to 180hz/24db slope.

The worst rattle right now is in the rear package tray. I think a layer of denim radiant barrier will fix it, it's just a pain to get to and not a huge problem.

This car is a perfect example of how something simple and straightforward can sound really good. He got good iasca scores at college station.
