    I was able to enlarge/deepen the enclosure to accommodate the wider/thicker flange of the SB woofer by using a 32mm rabbet bit with the bearing completely removed.
    I tested it on a scrap piece of "top quality"(sarcasm) MDF and was able to produce a consistent step...as long as i went around w/out stopping.

    UPDATE

    I broke the speakers in on a mini stereo(my Yamaha amp is in need of minor repairs) and found that I did not like the sound that much.
    Suspecting the cheapo stereo was to blame, I temporarily rigged a S-S REF 4.760 (bridged) + my Eclipse 7200MKii ... holy crap, what a difference! They literally came alive.

    I still need to play with the amount of stuffing to get rid of tid-bit of "boominess"...but, overall, I am impressed with the sound.
