maybe some 12's or even 10's, and a pair of Selenium horns on a shallow depth enclosure?
I like pro speaker stuff if I'm going to have it cranked with the garage door opened, for hours..
but then I'm not stacked on my neighbors either.
still, putting the money into some drivers, doing an econo-wave kind of thing, seems like a better approach than really smooth, butter sound from some consumer bookshelves.
like you say though it's tooo much...
