0 bit= muting FETS are clamped down to ground.

Gain is gain, no matter if you do it at a "line driver" or an amp.... Lose the line driver, more gain stages=more noise, there is no physical way around that. Amps have gains for a reason.

I've always said, I get small number milivolts from a stage through 200' of multicore, dunno why one can't get 2V to the trunk of a car.

adequate voltage, is enough voltage to power the amps to full power, imho.

the dependence on high voltage throughput is adding system complexity and causing noise concerns, when ironically, the real, technical reason for high voltage pre-amp line levels is to reduce noise.

I'd ditch the line driver, bump the amp gains off minimum, and see if the increase in noise is apparent or not. I assume your amps are quite normal and don't have any gain structure/buffer idiosyncrasy.

    again, just my humble opine.

Makes sense to me. I'll drop the line driver and adjust amp gains to achieve the output I'm looking for and see where I'm at.

Iirc the input of the 6to8 can be adjusted too with help of the clipping leds... Did you do that?
