Thread: Amp + Brickwall Limiter

    Question Amp + Brickwall Limiter

I want to buy and install an amplifier for a new sound system for a car. I'd like the amplifier to not clip, and I'm willing to sacrifice a little bit of dynamics for extra loudness when I want it.

In the world of music production we regularly obtain these goals with an effect called a brickwall limiter. It's basically a special type of compressor that guarantees that the sound never passes a certain threshold.

Do they make car audio amplifiers with brickwall limiters (or at least compressors) inside them?

    Well JesseHufstetler,

    Nope !

But, they do have gain setting videos on forums/youtube.

I buy more powerful amps (double) , then run "clean" power to everything ! Clipping under-powered amps, allows you to try new speakers ! ! !

What you are asking for is pretty much the opposite of what most (probably all) other members here strive for. You might dig up a Rane or Behringer unit that has been or can be converted for 12v use.

Yeah, I think my Behringer 2496 I practically gave away had something like that.

I had forgotten about seeing this recently. Might be what you are looking for. They talk about the compression near the end.

    Well Hufstetler,

My thoughts are any bridgeable amp and a gain structure of 1 in and b`tween , 3 to 5 out should agree with your desire for oomph over best/cleanest sound.

A Linear Power 2.2 HV will make it`s rated power 12 1/2 watts per channel (stereo) . . . And then some, dependant on volts input (twelve to sixteen) will work.

In this century (21rst) class D and Chinese made amps are totally for enthusiast`s going for super tiny and relatively powerful!
