How many watts for speaker formula

If you take RMS and multiply by .8 low, plus multiply by b1.25 for upper limit, high

Buy an amp that falls within these limits

1,000 watt speaker will be happy with b'tween 800-1,250 watts.

In a perfect world yes id agree. For front stage i can see this working. For sub stage its dependent on box rise

I have always winged it. Build the enclosure. Get an amp close to the rms. Clamp the amp. find box rise, and adjust the amps size from there

There was never a formula for me. It was all test and tune.

Every vehicle, sub enclosure, etc will have differant rise amd has to be done per what you have.

Idf it was for a burp vehicle, how am i going to burp? Sealed, drivers door open? Front windows open? Everything creates a differant amount of rise

Winging it and then purchasing more stuff (amps, speakers, etc.., is one way to go. )

Its just how ive always done it. I figure what speakers i want. And choose amps accordingly to that

But then again ive always had a huge boneyard or big amps that i could choose from.

But there really is no forumla for this is what im basically saying. There is no set in stone right or wrong way for car audio (you know what i mean)

Hell my first spl vehicle which was for demos and burps i ran 2 sundown nightshades with zv3 softparts. Rated at 2k watts a peice. I ran a sundown 4500 at .35 ohm per sub and they were fine. Clamping over 5200 watts a peice

Re: How many watts for speaker formula

If the RMS of speaker (s) is doubled, how much will the amount of sound increase ?

In example above , 1,000 watts (double) ~ 2,000 watts.

    A 3dB
    B 6dB
    C 10dB
