New Car Audio Junkie from Canada

    Hello All,

My name is Tim, getting there in age, commuter and bass lover.

Found this forum online and have been reading tons of build logs. Starting my first build myself and have been looking for inspiration across the net. All of the posts and replies here are friendly and supportive and I joined because of that!

Car: 2006 Ford Fusion SE V6
    Current Equipment:
    • Kenwood DPX303BT head unit;
    • Rockford Fosgate P1683 Coax front door speakers - can handle 65W RMS

    • MTX Thunder Pro 2/ 180W, 60W RMS @ 4 ohm 2 channel; (found at local Best Buy... left over from when it was a Future Shop... 40$ couldn't resist).
    • JL 10W3 Subwoofer in 32hz tuned ported box. (bought used from a friend)
    • Noico 80mil 50 sq ft. sound deadening

    • 8 gauge power (MTX)
    • 8 gauge ground

I was worried that the used memphis amp would blow the speakers out of the water. But after some quick calculations looks like I will be on the low side of acceptable at 300W:

Welcome to the best mobile audio forum on the interweb!!!

That does look like quite a good setup, where are you mounting the amps and subwoofer?
    Are you not entertained?!?!

    Hey Chithead,

I was planning on mounting amps on two pieces of decent plywood (like skis, leaving the middle for airflow), then mounting those on the back of the back seats in the trunk, basically on either side of the sub. Leaving extra room of cable to still fold the seats forward, JIC.

    What do you think?

Absolutely. Secure mounting is definitely important, and of course leaving the wires flexible enough, but still secure, is perfect.
    Are you not entertained?!?!

I had a version of that car.
Maybe my build log will be of some value.
