A couple years ago, I did a purple supercharged Challenger when I was at the old shop. Some of you may remember it.

Well, he has some other cars...

a 2007 Hennesey Viper convertible, 900rwhp C5 Z06 twin turbo Corvette, the Challenger and some others,
including the subject of this build log, a 2006 Dodge Viper VOI9 (Viper Owners Invitational, 9th Anniversary) coupe.
It is 1 of 100 (numbered, and from what I've seen it's one of 16 (!) with the Prefix Aero Package delivered at the event in
Las Vegas) So it's pretty rare.

    Anyway, here's the car:

He brought me a box of equipment he had from other projects (mainly one of his Harleys) but thew only things I could really use were his 2 Arc Audio XDi 1200.6 amps.

The system starts with a Pioneer AVH-3400NEX HU, feeding an Arc Audio PS8 to 2 XDi 1200.6 amps (one for each side of the car).

The front stage consists of Focal ES165K2 component speakers, with the speakers going in the factory locations. I had to open up the doors for them to fit, but they sit just far enough back I was able to retain the stock grilles for a stealth appearance.

FAST rings were used to seal speaker output to the door. MESAMat was used throughout the vehicle.
Front components were bi-amped, to allow me to time align all the speakers.

Didn't get any pics of the tweeters installed, but I used trim washers and screws to hold them in. The tweeter cup JUST fit in between
    screw holes.

The sub enclosures (one on each side) are stackfabbed and hold a pair of Alpine Type-R 8" subs. The bottom is fitted with threaded inserts, so the enclosures can be bolted in from underneath the car.

I made a jig to router the stack so that I could put a slight angle on the mounting rings.

The insides are all 45'd top and bottom to reduce standing waves.

The PS8 is mounted to a flat board that bolts to rivnuts in the battery cover. For servicing, you can unbolt the panel and lay it on top of the amp rack to get to the battery.

Amp rack is a relatively simple affair, that bolts into the tub (sorta spare tire well area) with rivnuts. I used MESA fused distro and ground distro blocks, Stinger 8000 series RCA's. I made an a-symetrical template and pressed grill to cover it. I'll post pics soon...

The rear speakers in a Viper are just tweeters firing straight up. He wanted REAL rear speakers, so I had to find a way to install Focal EC165K coaxials
back there. I spent several days trying to come up with something I liked but nothing was really grabbing me. Until...

Everything I was coming up with seemed bulky to me, then I had the side panels off and there was a ton of room behind them...so I did this:

I'd have left it like this, but he likes stockish, but showy...and there was some discoloration on the panel, so I made a trim panel that combined the main colors of the interior and highlights the special edition badge.

I also installed SiriusXM and an Alpine HCEC-1100 backup camera. Nothing special about it, so I didn't bother taking pics.

I had been trying to find vinyl that matched the blue on the door panels, without any luck...then the car owner showed up with like a hide and a half of blue leather from a local shop that only does custom Viper interiors. My first time using it, but it worked OK.

The lower part of the trunk shows the silver painted trim rings on the pressed grilles I did for the subs, the edge lit plexi on the amp trim (also with a pressed grille) and the carpet I matched myself. Lol. I started with a medium-light gray and misted black carpet and vinyl dye over it until it was damn near perfect.

IMG_20180921_191341853 by Jay McGraw, on Flickr

The edge lit plexi only lights up when the hatch is open.

The upper section got a custom highlighted trim piece using black vinyl, blue leather and silver trim pieces to match the doors. The rear speakers are mounted on custom plates and sealed the the grilles with more FAST rings, that you can't see because of the grill cloth.

Thanks! I took a break from FB and car audio forums around Christmas last year, mostly because
I was slammed busy during remote start season. Then I kinda wanted to see how long I could go without FB and
the rest just kinda went with that.

But lately I realized several of the FB groups I was in would be helpful to have access to again, and decided to see what
I'd missed here and on DIYMA as well.

Turns out DIYMA is trying to extort an exorbitant amount of money from me because I'm "in the industry," and since I think I've literally had 1 paying customer come to me specifically from there, I don't see paying it. I know Bing and Nick both do a lot of business from there, so it makes more sense for them.

I'm going to Finals this weekend, and then have another big job lined up when I get back in a 1000hp GT500.

Outstanding work, Jay. I hate that I'm going to miss you guys next weekend. I actually have Friday off and had a hotel reserved, but the finances isn't going to line up. Have fun!

That sucks. I feel like I just got back from Nick's show, and now I'm heading out again. Finances are a little tight (considering I just bought a power supply and some other stuff) but I think I can pull it off.
If not, someone is getting paid late. lol
