    Cone “frozen”

I have a pair of jbl 2118h’s and one seems to have a frozen cone. It plays, but the cone doesn’t move. Do I need to attempt my first redone, or is there something else that can be done?

Is the box {vented/ported}, bass reflex? If not, then yeah, first recone time. The new cone, surround and voice coil are what you will get and paper shims help guide or hold voice coil as you insert it in and then glue surround to basket.

Either something happened to the coil or former or something in the motor shifted. Time to cut the cone out and have a look.

The two speakers I've repaired with that issue, motor shifted. One happened in shipping, to me. The other one, guy said the subwoofer box tipped over

On forums , some just call the product junk and buy something else.

No box, just raw drivers. The recone kit is $65 with the VC height correct and everything ready to drop in. I bought the pair for $70. I can get another pair on eBay for under $100. Do you guys think it’s worth messing with, or would it be worth the experience to recone?

Cut it open first. If the motor is shifted a recone may not be an option.

This, unfortunately ^^^ the one I was able to repair, it took blessings from Zeus himself. About four guys in our trailer shop with screwdrivers, and some of the repair adhesive they use to glue new panels onto the frames. It held, and worked ok, but dadgum was that an endeavor.
