Thread: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!

I thought since I was using all 6 Channel outputs on the Amp (to the speakers), I'l be doing the same on the Inputs (to the RCA's).
Is there an "explaination for dummies" to make sense of this?

    4-Ch mode
CH1 goes to the Left RCA (using single RCA cable)
    CH2, CH5, CH6 all go to the Right RCA (using 2 Y-adapters)
CH3 and CH4 are left unplugged

    Right?

Correct! Putting the switch to 4-channel mode will internally parallel 1&3, 2&4...so you don't need to hook up 3 and 4, it would be redundant.

    Starting to make sense!

Really CH5 and CH6 can go into either the Right or the Left, correct?
It's just a matter of where you want it to fade.

Sounds like I need to go buy two Y adapters!

Yes, unless you're good enough to make your own custom 3-way splitter with a single female RCA end going to 3 male ends.

    Hey BigAl,

Turns out my old piece of crap car stereo was a piece of crap!
I had to buy a new CD player (Sony CDXG3100UP), which has 4 outputs - see picture below.

How do you recommend I attach my RCA cables to this new head unit?

Connect Rear Audio Out on radio to #1 and #2 inputs on the amp. Connect Sub Audio Out to #5 and #6 inputs...no need for y-adapter, the sub out should be mono. Run the amp in 4-ch mode.

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!

Installed my new stereo, subwoofer sounds great!
However, I can't get the Right Rear/Left Rear speakers to work.

Subwoofer and both front speakers work fine, but apparently I still haven't hooked up the RCA cables correctly between stereo and amp.
    Any advice?

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!

What is the mode switch on now? If you flip the mode switch to 2ch does everything play? My guess is that you'll need a pair of RCA Y's. 1 to connect inputs 1&3 together to the left rear output of the radio, the other to connect inputs 2&4 together to the right rear output of the radio. Then connect the sub out of the radio to input channels 5&6. Flip the mode switch to 6ch and you should be good to go.
