Ideally - triangle (home system) ,certain frequencies @ ear level, lower frequencies appear to come from ear level but in fact, they do not (HAAS effect/precedence) @ a certain frequency and down (subwoofer/infrasonic) they become omni-directional (going in all directions @ once ) { YES, put your speakers "where you want" them}.

Without 14 channels of amplification, a 14 channel DSP won't be fully used.

What should I use for a roof for the compartment? Not sure what to use and I probably shouldn't fiberglass a box as it's got a major lip at the top. Oh well... it'll help with a top for it I guess. I plan on sealing all of it with sound deadening and filling it with polyfill.
Any more drivers come to mind for midbass / midrange / tweeters that really stick out kind of on the lowerish cost range?

    This is a Tacoma right?

If so, my recommendation is get a set of Audiofrog GS690 woofers in the front doors. Use the heavy duty HDPE 6x9 adapter baffles from Tacotunes.com to install them. Treat the front doors with CLD and seal up the large openings in the inner metal skin. Use a layer of CCF/MLV under the door panels.

Then get a set of Audiofrog tweeters to match and install them in the factory dash location.

Do whatever you like with a sub and get a decent 8ch DSP such as the Helix DSP.2 or JL TWK. Get a proven strong 6ch amp like an Arc Audio Xdi 1200.6 to run everything.

This setup will likely provide more than enough volume to damage your hearing, will be much cheaper, simpler and quicker to install/tune than the 16 or 20 or however many "lower cost range" speakers you have been thinking.... and will very likely sound much better.

Is it coming together, PunkRocker ? Did you select speakers , DSP and amplification ?
