Remote turn on issues (me thinks)

    Hi folks,
The wiring was done by a Best Buy several years back so there's that.
My amp (Alpine PDR-F50) appears to be off when ignition is off but the amp stays warm.
Doesn't the remote switch kill all power if the ignition is off?

Got a 12 volt test light or digital multi-meter ?

    Check the connections !

With a 12 volt test light , touch remote connections with one lead and connect other lead to ground.

With DMM , set to dc volts and look for 12 volts when touching remote wire and a ground source.

If amp is warm to touch in the morning ( when shut off night before ) and battery is dead [ probably didn't shut off with remote ]

    Kellie,

Was your amp a recall ?
    Http//forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-Buy-Repair-Support/alpine-PDR-F50-amp-recall-what-to-do-next/td-p/931158

    Appears to be 4 - channels ( 85 watts ) or bridged ( 2 - channels ) @ 250 watts. Also , 4 ohm stable when bridged.

How are you using it ? 2 sets of speakers or a set of speakers and then a subwoofer ?

It appears that contacting Alpine first and then Best Buy is the way to go .

Certain model years of your amp have been recalled .

An experienced installer at Best Buy is anyone who applies and is there for more than a month . Their skillz are zero/zip/nada.

An update. I was just out tinkering with the speakers and such when the idiot bells, you know the door dingers kicked on for a split second
which triggers the power. No key in the ignition.
Is it possible I'm having an ignition switch starting to go?

Best Buy was convenient at the time. I really just needed them to do the dash harness. In hindsight kinda the most important part though.
I'm running it as a 4 channel with Polk separates. I have a separate bass with its own amp.
I'll check for a recall and check the remote voltage.

    I really appreciate you guys.

The wiring should be redone at a "qualified" shop, just to play it safe.
Cheaper in the long run !
Is this a remote starting system for your vehicle ? The triggers ( positive - when vehicle is turned on / negative - when vehicle is turned off ) can be difficult to grasp by the best of installers .

Yes it has a remote start function.
Maybe adding a separate switch for the start line instead of using the one on the line out converter?

Hope bestbuy and Alpine help you if serial number is on recall list.

I overheard a guy talking about his vehicle "shutting off " , when he was driving down the road !
He went back four times and had an appointment for a fifth time , the fools at BestBuy didn't seem to have a clue !

What vehicle and LOC do you have? Some cars may still have voltage on a speaker wire, causing the LOC to constantly wake up the amp, or never let it turn off.
