I used to install car phones (yeah I'm old), and some are more directional than others. If you try it out and things sound muffled, you might be able to crack the plastic housing open, expose the mic element, and glue it facing more down-ish.

Job #1 this week is get the A/C installed and working. Got that done, now I won't melt!
Job #2 was to get the radio bracket fabrication taken care of and get it mounted in the console.
Overly complicated, as usual.
Bottom mounting.
Front mounting. The rear of the radio is wedged at the back of the console, so this is more than enough to hold it tight.
For test purposes only at this point.
Lid shut.
is that mount heavy duty enough!
