    2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Well hello! This is a slow to be updated thread regarding some of the upgrades to a 2016 Jeep Wrangler. Short story, wife achieved a goal in her life that is pretty significant, always wanted a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, so we made the decision to get her one.

    Obligatory pictures of the Wrangler:

Part of the deal we worked out, they added the steps on about two weeks later:

So, first thing's first. Where do you start in audio upgrades for a Jeep Wrangler? I can tell you... the first thing that has to go, is the dreadful factory radio. Replaced it this weekend, with a Kenwood DDX773BH. Part of my research into the new Wranglers led us to the Maestro RR as the best choice for head unit replacement. Not only for retention of all the steering wheel controls, but because of some weird way the factory radio is powered. This piece retained everything, and really was just a plug and play install using one of their factory harnesses.

    List of pieces includes:

    Kenwood DDX773BH
    iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR adapter
    iDatalink Maestro HRN-RR-CH1 harness
    iDatalink Maestro HRN-ANT-SAT1 adapter
    Metra AX-USB-MINIB USB adapter
    Metra 95-6511 Dash Kit
    Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter

Turns out the SAT1 and USB adapters were oversights on my part. The SAT1 is only needed if you plan on purchasing the Sirius/XM Satellite Radio tuner - we don't plan on it, so that isn't needed. The USB adapter though, couldn't find anywhere inside the dash for it to plug in, so this might be something added later, once I dig into the center console and find out just how those connectors look.
    Are you not entertained?!?!

First thing's first... dash kit. Starting with this piece right here:

Wait a minute. Do you see that? Can you imagine those on each side of the radio, just as gap fillers? Me either, something else had to be done. Time to grab the drill, and modify!!!

    Hmmm... need more modify!

    Modify almost complete:

    Needs some paint:

The color is actually the same antique nickel I used on the Zapco logos for the Challenger build. So, how do they look attached to the head unit?

Nice... Alright, factory radio is removed, Maestro harness, RRD adapter, and Metra antenna adapter are attached:

Nice little spot on the side to tuck everything. Just be sure to go behind that metal piece inside the dash, otherwise you won't have much room to slide the radio back in. But, this is only if you're using a single din radio. If going with a double din (like us), that metal piece must be removed:

    DDX773BH installed:

This was done at 11pm Saturday night, sorry for the low lighting:

And this is why I did the modify to the dash kit, check out the detail Jeep put on the grab bar and door pulls:

Some better pictures in the daylight:

Very nice added detail to the dash piece.

Did the Maestro & harness extensions fit easily in the dash? Mine took literally hours to figure out how to fit it all in there neatly and still have the Maestro's USB programming cable accessible for flashing future updates without having to remove the dash again.

The Maestro is nice for sure. Can't get the OBD communication to work on the Gauges screen, but it reads the check engine lights and Tire PSI. Probably just a setting I haven't figured out yet. Wife loves the radio, and is ecstatic everything still works She keeps telling me to post pictures of those dash pieces on a Jeep Forum, thinks other Jeep owners would like them too.
    Are you not entertained?!?!
