    Point Source Drivers

Anyone heard or used any good mid priced($100+/-) mid range point source drivers?
Looking for a 3-4" that can go into a dash or into kicks with a 6-7" mid bass. I am open to suggestions, I know Theil makes them but they don't like to sell them to the public and WONT warranty them, they wont even sell them if they know they are going into a car.

I have considered building kicks for these http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-346but its gonna be a BITCH to make them fit on the drivers side without protruding out too far and I don't want to loose the dead pedal.

I have considered this as a full range/wide band http://www.usspeaker.com/homepage.htmbut am unsure about going that route again. I ran Trinities in competition(I think I was the first/only one to do so and actually took 3rd at Finals with a 5 speaker setup(2ea Dynaudio 8's, 2ea Trinities and a single IDQ12)

There are a few 6.5" models out there but I want more mid bass so I am going with an 8 in the door of the Charger and a mid/point source in the dash.

    Any recommendations would be helpful.

Can you aim them straight on axis?

Check wavecor.com for some nice hi-endish units for a very fair price..

No I cant, best bet would be into the windshield in the factory dash locations.

Here is a nice website with a lot of drivers to choose.. http://www.europe-audio.com/Producte...uctgroep_ID=73

The peerless fullrange units have a aluminum dustcap glued directly to the former which sort of acts like a tweeter.. I'm running exact! en50b4 units as mids and they are a 2" Tymphany (peerless) unit built to the specifications of Herr Möller ( the owner of exact! in germany ) and they perform outstanding for a 2". In our company demo car we run the exact! en65 fullrange units, the same but with inverted surround and 2,5" and they sound even better.. ( due to lack of space in my mx5 I went for the 2" units.)

    B&G Neo's ?

The 8's can play comfortably down enough to mate to a decent midbass driver with low Le and good FR. They are longer than a standard driver, but much more shallow as well.

Hmm, well in that case, here's some recommendations:

Tang Band W4-1337SD It's highly regarded in the home audio builders arena. Has the ability to extend very high and has good, full midrange as well. (I may have one of these in my closet I can send out to you if you'd like to test)
Fountek FR88 and FR89 are both very solid 3" drivers

In the $100 range that's about all I can think of.

My wife drives my old Dodge Magnum, same as Howard's car. I had the Fountek FR89's in the dash locations and the high end was just not there. On-axis on my bench, they sounded great. I've had the 88's as well, but not in the Magnum. I am wondering if they would allow the high end to come through. Something tells me they won't. How did you like that Tang Band driver? Never heard one in person.

    Re: Point Source Drivers

I used the TB Bamboo's in my Volvo for a short time and while they were superior to the Trinity tonally they couldn't get past the 12Khz mark without some serious work and help. I may try to find a set of the Theil/Genesis point source drivers and take my chances.

    Re: Point Source Drivers

I have the Fountek 89s on axis in pods on my Accord dash. I'm not missing tweeters. Although they can get a tad harsh with horns and cymbals and require a bit of attenuation. I still plan to add some ambient tweets to help with the sparkle and atmosphere.
