Yes, R-13 batt insulation, a small air gap, and then foil-backed 1" rigid foam (which is supposed to supply an R-6 if you leave a 3/4" air gap for the reflective foil to breathe). I know the pics look kinda wonky because the foam boards don't line up with the OSB panel seams, but I actually did that on purpose to help prevent air infiltration. I just stood up the foam boards, put in a couple of screws to hold it in place, and then used the OSB to sandwich it into place.

I honestly don't know. I got it free from a friend who moved out of state. If it doesn't work out, I'll either buy a bigger one, or add a second one in the other opening I framed for just such an eventuality.

I just checked and the unit is an 18,000 BTU Whirlpool

Unfortunately, I got it all wired up, turned it on, and it just sits there and hums. I tried unplugging it, banging it around, spinning the fan manually...I even went so far as to swap the hot leads, but nothing helped. It worked fine on the bench, but now...

The only thing I can think it could be is either the startup capacitor went out, or we knocked something loose while hoisting it up.

That sucks, Al! I hope you get it figured out and it works out for you. Free stuff is only cool (pun intended) when it helps!

10ga. solid copper. Do you think it's too much of a voltage drop?
