Thread: Big Al's Garaj Mahal

    Re: Big Al's Garaj Mahal

I work in the live entertainment biz where PowerCON connectors are super common, there are two different PowerCON connectors, the 20 A and the True1, there are few small differences between them. The 20 A is rated for 20 amps and is traditionally blue. The True1 is rated for 16 amps and is traditionally yellow. The True1 also makes the ground contact first, the 20 A doesn't.

Using them on your power tools is a brilliant use for them! Since you have yellow connectors, are you sure you have the 20 A and not the True1 connectors?

So you are using the True1 connector. Making the ground contact first won't make much of a difference to you, and I'd bet all your tools are well below the max current rating.

In my world, making the ground connection first, and breaking it last, is a big deal as it's not uncommon to plug and unplug LED video panels while the whole video screen is live.

To be honest, the major reason I chose the TRUE1 over the others is that it's the only one with both male and female in-line connectors. The others only have a female cable end and male chassis connector...you would need a coupler to join two cables.

    That's not a bad reason!

Entertainment industry here too... I had NO IDEA that the 20A did not make ground first... Ugh.... That's quite important....

Can I come steal your garage? Maybe we can blame it on Hurricane Matthew (I swear, it just flew away!) lol
When I had my last house I always planned to take out a home equity loan and build a garage...but the market tanked,
and I never got any equity. Paid $72k, lived there 8 years, refi'd once and owed $70k when I let it go. It sat vacant for a year
    and sold for $28k. smh.

    I'd love something like this!

Housing market tanking is why I do not have a detached 3 car right now.
