I don't want to invest big money into one and I have been looking at building one. Anyone done something like this?

It may be more economical to buy than build??

I support your endeavor into building one.

Yeah, the router lift looks pretty interesting...but what keeps the adjusting rod from moving due to vibration and lowering during prolonged use? I would have added some kind of tightening device to hold the lift once adjusted. The idea for the sacrificial zero-clearance insert is cool also.

I have not built one for two reasons....

    1. Time. I have very little spare time, so it was more beneficial to purchase a lift/table than it was to make them.
    2. no matter how good my skills are, a router lift built by me will never be as precise as a quality machined lift. For me, my router lift needs to be a precision tool.

Has anyone built a DIY router lift and table

There a few videos of diy lifts. Shop notes had a design a few years ago that is one of the nicer ones. There is also a video of a Steve Ramsey building it. Search YouTube for "shopnotes router lift" and it should be the first one.

It doesn't necessarily have to have a lock on it. My commercial one doesn't have a lock and it never moves.

I watched a vid last night talking about the shop notes lift. They all look about the same with a way of sliding and a threaded rod for adjustment. The shop noted one the guy built used v groves instead of the drawer sliders.

I have a craftsman table saw sitting in the garage I go a couple of weeks ago. I am going to see if it has that piece. What model # is your router?
