I got to drive one of these about 15 years ago. I am 6'1" and probably went about 290lbs at the time. I almost physically could not drive the car. It was damn near impossible for me to operate the clutch. I would say no shoe bigger than about a size-8 would fit under the dash reasonably comfortably. Let alone the fact that I could not hold my head straight up. And it was very poorly engineered. And, quite surprisingly, it was a slug. My 4x4 1972 Dodge truck was quicker. Fact, we raced. I smoked him in a hillbily 1/4-mile, badly.
I used to sell these at a dealer, mid 90's. Same car pretty much.. The Esprit S4. They were fun but oh Lawd try to get in and out of it. Even my mid-90's skinny butt could barely fit in it. But hard to find a sexier look from that era.
I tried to get in one about 10 years ago when I was considerably thinner. I would have had to bend myself in half to get my 6'5 frame in there. It was worse then getting in an S2000
I just haven't had my "Pretty Woman" moment yet...
There's no seeing one of these for me without this classic Bond flick coming to mind..
Ya know.. While on the subject.. Us old farts will recognize this chick in the chopper from a bunch of 70's movies, Sinbad etc.. Not everything in the 70's was grungy hippie dippy.
Let's just have a hat in hand salute to Caroline Munro. Lord have mercy!
