Re: Slow basic fairly low budget build

That's pretty well where I'm at right now. Still experimenting with tweeter locations, but it sounds best to me a few inches up from the bottom of the a-pillar & slightly off axis. This is my first attempt at an active setup. I've got my mids at 80-3.15 & tweets at 3.15 12db slopes on both. Currently running the gt-2300 amp 300x2@4ohm on mids & gt-2200 200x2@4ohm on highs. Gains are all the way down on highs & hardly touched on mids, less then degree or 2 rotation. These JBL components are ok, but they sound better to me highpassed at 100 hertz. I have got to get some subs soon

I'm thinking about getting a gt-275 amp 75x2 for highs & using the 2200 for mids & 2300 on subs, any thoughts? I had planned on a gt-2200 per side & 2300 on subs, but I am thinking it may be worth saving a few pennies & using less power on tweets. I could be wrong, I often am, enlighten me

Thanks! Wanted to get a good a seal against the door panel, preferably with what I had on hand. So I doubled over some ccf & it seems to be working well, so far.

Re: Slow basic fairly low budget build

I've been doing some basic tuning since I've figured out approximate tweeter locations, & I'm not very impressed with the mids. Don't get me wrong they sound good, there's just not much along the lines of low frequency output or volume. Maybe I was just expecting too much due to all the internet-hype.

I'm going to move ahead with the trunk & sub stage, but won't be surprised if I don't end up either replacing the JBL mids, or adding 7-8" with better low frequency response to the doors & putting the JBL mids in some kick panels or back in the box they came in.

I've got mids at 80-3.15k & tweets at 3.15k, 12db slopes on both. This is my first active setup, any advice or suggestions is appreciated

Try lowering the mid to 63hz @24db and 2k at 12db..

Re: Slow basic fairly low budget build

I gave it a go, sounded like my sound stage widened & raised slightly. Problem is it's almost like these mids lose clarity below 100hz. I'm tempted to try a pair of small mid bass/subs in some kick pods, or moving these to kicks & mid bass/sub in doors.
