Central/North AL GTG
BigAl's Big Birthday Bash!
I would like to invite everyone over to check out the new garage, listen to some cool audio systems, hang out and cut up with your friends, and help me celebrate my Birthday. We will probably also have a pre-meet and tuning session the night before.
The place: My house in Hayden, AL (about 25 miles north of Birmingham)
The date: Saturday, November 12
The time: 9AM to 9PM
Optional things to bring:
- your favorite demo music
- a folding chair
- a camera
- Tools and tuning equipment
- a friend
- a canopy
I'm open for suggestions on what we can get for lunch. I'm leaning towards barbecue, but grilling is an option.
I hope to see you there!

Re: BigAl's Big Birthday Bash! 11/12/16
I'm gonna put the vacation day in for it. You know I can't miss this! Work screwed me out of the Nashville meet and I swore I'd make a Bama meet if one surfaced.
1) Alan (BigAl205) 2015 Ford Explorer
2) Chris (Hillbilly SQ) 2011 Ram Quadcab
Y'all will get to see the white pig all clayed and dolled up. The NC guys will have to deal with a dull white truck cuz it's too damn hot to do it between now and then!

Re: BigAl's Big Birthday Bash! 11/12/16
Well, guess I'll skip mine to come to yours.
Put me down. Maybe I'll even have my car finished by then.

2) Chris (Hillbilly SQ) 2011 Ram Quadcab
3) Erin (ErinH) 2006 Honda Civic Sedan

Re: BigAl's Big Birthday Bash! 11/12/16
Yea...
We had talked about it in my other thread. I hadn't started an official thread yet because I didn't want it to be bumped and keep Jason's NC meet from getting visibility in case newcomers popped in and might want to go to his. But no harm, no foul. It'll save me the trouble of having to clean my house I suppose. :)
Plus, this way I can come over to your place and eat all your food! Ha!

Re: BigAl's Big Birthday Bash! 11/12/16
no worries, dude. let's not muck your celebration up with a miscommunication.
I'm happy for you dude. Truly. This has been something you've been working towards for a long time and wanting to finish up so what better way than for all of us to come celebrate your birthday and your shop! I'll bring you a housewarming present. :D

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Good news Al, my server migration got postponed (as expected), so I will be there... and won't need WiFi :D (Conversation carried over from DIYMA thread)

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Good deal Eric! Should be good engine off listenin' weather so bring enough demo music to choke a goat! I'll make sure to bring the smart charger to keep the battery hot. After 6 hours of rta work my smearing is just about GONE. Like an ocd bulldog I measured, nudged, measured again, nudged, rinse/repeat until the left and right were near mirror images of each other and laying on top of each other. The much more precise imaging is kinda distracting while driving:nuts:

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
looking forward to seeing everybody again.
my car won't be playing music but luckily it's only an hour drive of silence down to Al's. :D

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
That's too bad Erin, I was looking forward to hearing your system.
-
Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
So does that mean Erin, you will have more time to help me correct my possible Finals debacle?

eh, it happens. just not enough time to get it knocked out fully. I dunno, though... if I just focus on getting the parts installed and worry about getting all the cosmetic stuff (mainly the trunk plexi/lighting stuff) finished up over the winter, I can get it playing.

of course. either way.

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Cosmetic stuff takes a back seat to sound. Remember when Slade came to your house with fiberglass that wasn't fully cured?;)

yea. but the problem is if I don't do it right the first time it may never get done. I know me. so I was taking this install one step at a time. really would like to re-do my kicks entirely but I don't see that happening. truth be told, I'm to the point in this hobby where if I made enough money I'd gladly take the car to someone else and let them do the work.

I'm the same way these days. My next vehicle will probably have some pillar pods done by one of the handful of trusted fabricators. Maybe Todd Crowder since he's local IF he hasn't retired by then. If not there's Chris Pate, Steve Cook, and a few others. I don't mind the tuning part or simple install stuff that doesn't have to be pretty. Still hate installing but I now have enough sense to farm out stuff that's way over my skill/patience level.

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Jon said he'd try to make it if he ain't too wore out from being on a flying sardine can for an inhumane number of hours.

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Hmm! Will see if my Mrs will let me out for another weekend. :) If so and I can get my ducks in a row (and maybe me pillars flocked cuz they're fugly), I'll bring the old beast down. 6 hour drive ouch
-
Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Hope you make it Scott. We won't think any less of you if you don't get the pillars dolled up. Just the nature of the hobby and it's fun looking at rides in various levels of progress. Get a good tune on it and let the cards fall where they do. Oh, 6 hours for you? It's 6.5 hours for me from Arkansas. Only about half as bad as driving to NC! This will be my pig's last showing before it gets retired. I'll be pulling the system out as soon as I get back from Bama. A 2014 or 2015 Grand Cherokee will be taking its place.

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
Chris, you have had more cars than I have had systems since I've known you! lol
Scott, if you could make it down that would be sweet!

Since I've known you in person, I've had two Rams. Since I've been on the forums dating back to 03 I've had two Rams, a Sierra, and a Silverado. Either way, I'm ready to be a lot more comfortable while in the drivers seat so it's time to get away from the Amish buggy rear axle. I've driven a live rear axle vehicle exclusively since 2000ish. My Ram rides leaps and bounds better than my three single cab short bed trucks, and s-10 Blazer. And noticed A LOT less driver fatigue in the Ram. Bet I notice the same amount of difference going from a Ram to a Grand Cherokee. If they ride as good as the new Durango I test drove I'll be tickled to death. The GC just makes more sense to me for some reason. A conversation with my insurance agent helped with the decision...

It would be great to see you again Scott... I didn't get a chance to hear your Civic at Jasons GTG.

Re: Central/North AL GTG- Nov 12
My truck is rocking stock minus the dd headunit in the dash. End of the month and if it checks out I'll be getting a great deal on a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited. Black with tan leather interior. Let's just hope they don't try to screw me on my trade. Hadn't planned on trading until after the meet but you know how things go. It has the U-connect 8.4 with factory sub so might hunt down the factory amp and see what I can do with the stock speakers run and processed by my c-dsp and 800/8. Got some Noico mat on the way per Glenn's recommendation and 150' of NVX 16g silver tinned ofc. Looks like I'll be getting a JL Fix on the way PDQ! Maybe I'll have time to get the doors deadened and wire run. Might be doing some last minute installing at Al's.
