Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
I was given a free amp and sub from my friend, and want to install it in my car (2010 Hyundai Tucson).
Wanted to get some advice on how to set this up, to make sure I'm wiring this correctly.
Amp is a MB Quart Nautic NAU660 (6-Channel). Yes, I know it's designed for boats, but it's free and beggars can't be choosers.
Sub is a single 10" MB Quart DWI 252 Dual Voice Coil (300 W RMS, 2x2Ohm impedance).
Using an aftermarket radio.
I have a feeling like the amp is overkill for only (1) 10" subwoofer.
However, I'm hoping there is some way to wire this and make it work!
Let me know if any other information would be helpful.
Any suggestions from anyone out there??
Thanks,
Birdie

Wire 1 channel to 1 voice coil and then wire a 2nd channel to the other voice coil [ lowpass filter set @ 80 hZ to start .

Nice !

A sealed box around .6 cu ft .
Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
I would wire the two sub voice coils in series, which would produce 4Ω. I would then hook it up to bridged channels 5 and 6 on the amp.
See page 8 of the manual, and wire it in the bottom configuration

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
Thanks Big Al,
I'll use the wiring diagram above to wire the 2+2 Ohm subwoofer.
Referring to page 8 on the manual, do I need to buy a Y-adapter and use the MONO LINE INPUT?
I guess I'm now confused how to connect the amp to the two RCA inputs on the stereo.
Since I'm using CH5 and CH6 for the Mono Subwoofer, I'm assuming I need to use the Mono Line input.
I'll post some picture later today once I get all the wires in place.
Thanks again!
Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
It depends on how many and what kind of outputs the radio has (sub out, full-range, etc). What radio is it?
If it only outputs a stereo signal to the RCA's, then you need to run the right channel RCA to a y-adapter into both ch 5-6 on the amp, that way the amp is only seeing that one signal.
Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
Bear in mind that doing it that way, the amp will only see the right channel signal...so if you turn the balance all the way to the left, the sub will fade out. They do make adapters that turn a stereo signal into mono that way you could hook up both channels, but this is the quick and dirty way.

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
First off, I greatly appreciate your help.
I'm all about the quick and dirty, as I won't be adjusting the balance for this set-up.
I'm using an old Panasonic car stereo that only has the Left/Right RCA outputs.
So if I'm following, I only need a single stereo output from the Left RCA, buy a Y-adapter, and hook it into Ch5 & CH6 on the amp.
If there any benefit to hooking up the other factory car speakers into the other open channels on the amp?
I purchased a wiring harness and wwas just going to connect the aftermarket stereo to the factory wiring.
Thought some pictures would help:

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
I was under the assumption that you would run the other 4 channels to the other speakers. Yes, you would get more volume and less distortion.
Edit: deleted this sentence to avert confusion

Looks like there is a 2,4,6ch switch. Prolly no need for splitters.

Re: Need help with Amp / Sub set-up!!
Ok... here goes nothing...
I tried sketching out the whole system.
Bridging the mono sub into 5CH and 6CH, per the Installation Manual.
Wire the two sub voice coils in series, per BigAl's recommendation above.
Connecting the other factory door speakers into the amp: 1CH (Right Front), 2CH (Left Front), 3CH (Right Rear) and 4CH (Left Rear).
Not sure how to connect the Amp Inuts (with 3 Y adapters?), as I only have two RCA outputs on the Receiver).
Any of this look right?
Welcome to feedback/advise
