Is this good or bad ?
It depends on the driver, situation, baffle size.... Sometimes a midrange that peaks in the lower range and drops off early can sound better due to the bafflestep...
after looking at some of the EQ plots, I wonder if it's killing my midrange. The EQ points always look like a sawtooth when I'm done.
Most common issue is a boost in the mid/high range.. Is this at home or in your car?

What do you mean by baffle step? Do you mean a step in the baffle, or the step of using a baffle? Please clarify.
edge diffraction isn't baffle step, is it?
the article with the various types of enclosures and their corresponding frequency curves would be a nice addition to the growing list of sticky threads... hence, the need for a technical section, instead of having to move into and out of the MSS side of the fence for some of this stuff.
baffle step is a sacred dance I do while constructing baffles
then it's good, until it's bad.
Ok, that makes sense
How would we implement a technical section? Just move threads with good technical content to the section, or just make a list of good technical threads with links? What if we were to do a wiki section?
Thanks for clearing that up :slap:
lol, I'm no forum engineer, but I think we could either piggy back a sub-forum off of the general forum for those technical plums that make great reading, so we'd have it handy when the harder questions surface.
we're a bunch of "slightly ahead of the curve" types here already, but as this place expands we should have a good "go to" other than telling people "use the search function"
imho, of course.
Yeah, I'm just looking for ideas and feedback
werd, I think some defined area where technical concepts can land, without being in the general population would be a plus, but maybe the forum isn't quite big enough yet for that.
I hate to give Deema credit, but everything in the the "list of useful threads" thread was a must read for me and they were organized by topic. And that 'parent thread' which just consisted of links was a sticky.

It wasn't deema itself that's the problem, it's the douchenozzle owner.
For car or home?
For car; from what I've read the transition between driver and baffle can make a big difference, boundary loading-sees the whole area as a one seamless boundary, one of the reasons Speaker Works GN sounded so good: Attachment 1335
For home; I've heard the argument that baffle step compensation is moot if the speakers are being positioned back to a wall, as most are, because frequencies longer than the enclosure width see the wall as the baffle, frequencies shorter than enclosure width see the enclosure as the baffle anyway.
RE the Tech section; could you not do an MSS version of "send to dumb questions" button but have it for smart Qs and As?
I suppose I could set up a button similar to the "like" and "thanks" button to do some action. It would take some figuring out. If we were to do that, should a threrad require a certain number of votes before being upgraded to 'tech' status, or could one vote have the power?
Definitely more than one vote.
