need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything else.
I plan on running a two way active set-up
Can anyone recommend a good mid range driver? I don't want component suggestions. Also 6.5" fits my doors however I plan on fiber glassing some panels so should I still use 6.5" ? Whatever raw driver I end up with I plan on having 16 of them so they need to be 8ohms each. They'll be powered by a Hifonics BRX1616.4 400 X 4 channels rms @2ohms. Also paper-cone only.
Also need suggestions on silk dome tweeters. Not sure how many tweeters I plan on buying. Apparently silk dome are the best sounding, can anyone argue against? And an amplifier would be nice for these tweeters to be powered from. Any suggestions would be nice.
Also looking for suggestions for a digital sound processor.
I have an Alpine cde-133bt headunit that I plan on changing for a high end sq head unit unless I'd be very well off with a dsp improvement (My questions is does a headunit not mean too much as long as it's 24bit if i Buy a dsp?), not sure where to be on this topic. It seems having a high-end dsp would mean I'd be so much better off.
I know this will be difficult to sq but hey I really do plan on sqing it ;) More speakers do look cooler lol.
On the issue of Bass I have a hifoncs BRZ1700.1d pushing one sundown sd3 d2. And using this subwoofer's ohm rating of dual voice coil 2ohm I can satisfy my amplifier with one or two or three of them; I only have one right now!
Also if anybody knows of a build log where the owner of a pick-up placed his amplfiers into an enclosure in the bed that'd be awesome. (I plan on putting everything back there IF i get a 2nd or 3rd subwoofer.)

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Are you wanting to get crazy loud? How do you plan on putting SIXTEEN 6.5's in your vehicle? Honestly I would suggest just using a pair of 6.5's and a pair of tweeters up front if you're going for sq. Then doing something in the back to flip on for extra output when needed. Or fabbing a pair in each door then doing a pair of tweeters in the dash area. Here's my suggestion for speakers. Lots of bang for the buck and proven performers. For the processor the JL twk seems to be the best bang for the buck when it comes to function and reliability.

Awesome input everyone. I have found out that sundown makes a 6.5" rated for 180watts rms. Might be just the ticket. (I think.)

What does a midrange driver, or midbass sound like with a center pole compared to the more flat options?

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Center pole?... you mean dust cap? :hmm:

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
If you are looking for pure thump out of midbass, I would look at Exodus Anarchy over the Sundown 6.5

A phase plug would help more with the midrange frequencies than the midbass frequencies.

That's very cool. I have a midbass amplifer, the hifonics brx1616.4 so I think I'll get some speakers with a phase plug for midrange. And add some midbass speakers as well.

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Looking for 4 midbass drivers is kind of starting to begin. Is there a difference in size and quality of sound? Or is it go as big as possible and they will play louder? I plan on running 4 x 400w rms @2ohm. Taking suggestions for some awesome drivers.
Does anyone had the chance to listen to a multiple tweeter set-up, say more than 4 in a car and thought it sounded good; should I be sticking with just 4?
I don't want to buy another hifonics amps to drive the tweeters, midrange speakers and might spend quite a bit here to make an active setup. I feel the hifonics amplifiers are fine for bass/midbass however.
This all means I'll be needing a 14 channel dsp! (4 mid range, 4 tweeters, 4 mid bass, 2 subwoofer.) And there aren't many options so if anyone knows of a nice one please let me know. I'd hate to have to use two dsps but If that's the ticket then I'm in.

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Larger cone area usually means more output at lower frequencies.
Generally, in most cases, and the consensus is from what I've read and have been exposed to, the less drivers playing the same frequencies the better for imaging and accuracy.
Is there a reason you want multiple mid-range and tweeter drivers? What are your goals? Proper imaging and accuracy or just maximum SPL and Wow factor?

What we've got here, is failure to communicate...
The best advice we can give you is keep it simple... multiple mids and tweets will cost more and likely sound worse.

I admit I'm in it for the wow factor, however it'll be fun to sq. I really like the sound of too many speakers.

Agreed, my truck has a pair. Bridge that amp to a pair, deaden and seal doors and done. 16 mids will NEVER sound good. Forget quantity, focus on quality
tl;dr- if you wanna use all those drivers, doesn't matter what you buy...

Which wow factor? Wow, look at how much equipment I can squeeze into a vehicle? Or... Wow, look at how great I can make this sound with very little equipment?
If you look through the Classic Builds, you’ll probably notice that in the late 80’s/early 90’s quantity seemed to reign. By the middle to late 90’s though, the consensus had changed to 3 to 8 total speakers.

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
It's a bit of trying to fit allot of speakers in while still having the ability to sq it. Right now this being said all the speakers will be tucked away and hidden.
I know it won't be a perfect sq build however it'll have a huge wow factor.
-
Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Won't good sound have more wow factor than a ridiculous number of speakers that aren't seen anyways?

Okay, so quantity and loudness are the primary goal. I'd skip the DSP and just tune it by ear to your liking. It won't be impossible to get it to stage somewhat, but a DSP is likely to cause more problems than solve them in this instance. At the end of the day, the only person that needs to be happy with your stereo is you.

Is it a good idea to use only one channel for subwoofer and one for midbass and 4 a piece for mids/tweeters on seperate amplifiers?
I just heard a rumor that most speaker companies buy raw drivers, and a nice example would be: http://www.diysoundgroup.com/anarchy...rchy-4ohm.html
however if this isn't true, and I know sundown and hertz don't buy raw drivers but I think I could save some cash buy buying some really nice raw drivers.
How many watts can I get up to for mid range per speaker so that it is LOUD!! Currently looking at the sundown 125.4
Also should I be looking for a new amplifier for my subwoofers, I currently have a hifonics brutus brz1700.1d from 2012, and I think it was designed in 2010, this is roughly maybe when Hifonics was on top of their game. Recently the company has switched to Max Power and left rms blank for most of their amps for 2018 and that's sad. However do you guys think it would work well with a sundown sd3 d2? I plan on using the 2ohm dual drivers at around 500w rms so this amp loads correctly for 1 or 2 or 3 subwoofers (likely upgrade). I'll likely replace it in the future if I get the opinion it just isn't sq capable or isn't really pushing 500w rms.
My mid bass amplifer, sadly might need replacing it's a 1600w hifonics brutus brx1614.4 I plan on using it at 4 ohm then 2ohm if I need more midbass running them in series. And I'm not sure if this amp just needs to go to craigslist or not.
is 50w rms too much for tweeters? And what should I expect for rms with the loudest versions of raw tweeters usually sold?
Also anyone have any suggestions for cool mods for a Truck? I might be making a blow through to hold my amplifers because I can't find a good place to hold them and they would be on a completely separate carriage of the vehicle so they'd be completely isolated from vibrations just about and modifying my toolbox and adding allot of ac fans for them. However some of my tools got rusty in my toolbox and all I can think of to remedy this is to use allot of weather stripping.
I don't want to modify the truck however will adding midbass in the doors be best on top of the subwoofer box or in it's own box underneath the rear seats be better for sq? This would give it an axis of 180 degrees on the box. Or 90 placed on the top of the box in the compartment. I could put them in the doors however I was hoping to give the illusion the truck isn't all that modified which is why I'm shy to putting them in the doors.
Running these 4 amps do you guys think I'll be fine with my stock 130amp alternator? I'm looking at a 250amp at idle alternator made by singer. Any suggestions here? Will I be needing a second battery? If so it'll go in the toolbox with my 50farad capacitor made by rockville (sigh.)
Haven't been able to find an adapter from 2 gauge to 4 gauge, might make my own and my idea was to stick both wires into each other, electrical paint it thickly and solder it to no end. Is this a bad idea? I might just stick 4 gauge into the amplifiers, which is safe from the low distance the wire will be traveling from capacitor to amplifier.
I'm interested in making my own coaxial audio cables, is there a huge improvement in sound here? Not sure who I would use when picking out these. All I know so far is to silver solder everything with good flux.
My head unit needs an upgrade and I plan on buying an apple carplay with HD radio, sirius and the best I can find is 24bit, and this is the most HD music tends to get up to however I have noticed audiophile head units go upto 32bit. I just don't see myself seeing this upgrade in bits as being actually used. Also I can't find a touchscreen 24bit with an optical out. Will optical out give me the ability to adjust rear or left and right channels?

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Optical cables are passe , use copper RCA`s .
Get the 250 amp alternator . Optical cables are passe , use copper. Winding your own RCA`s would be a waste IMO.
SISO equals what you get with cheap speakers !

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
The speakers are the final determinent as far as what will be heard , get the best you can afford.

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
If I am very careful with gains turning them real real low, can I use a 200w x 4 amp for 75w x 4 speakers? Some guy on caraudio has this advice on his profile.

Yes because a 200x4 amp can cleanly make 75 watts a channel, but a 75x4 amp won't cleanly make 200 watts a channel.
Gain isn't volume and amplifiers aren't like light bulbs.

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
It's coming along slowly, the only thing I'm waiting to figure out is where to mount my 200amp fuse box on my fuse tray that I had machined. A tad unrelated, would a circuit breaker be neccesary or should I use a mini-anl fuse to go inline before a relay/fuse box that I plan on using. For safety, bcae1 recommends using only fuses for car audio but it's an old site and I would still have mini fuses protecting my low power equipment. It's just on tacomaworld everyone is using a circuit breaker.
https://www.waytekwire.com/item/4634...RO-RELAY-RTMR/ or you know I haven't bought the fuse/relay box yet is there a better option out there?
I think I'll buy a helix for my dsp, any opinions? Right now I'm looking at 14 channels. And I could probably whitle it down however I plan on going active and having allot of speakers running of each channel so it images correctly with L/R. 4 midbass, 4 tweets, 4 midrange, 2 L/R inputs for subwoofer. However what is your guys opinion on this? Should I just go mono for midbass? It would save me three channels and allot of money most likely and it appears the new moscani, just taking it as an example, has mono midbass.
Anyone know of a good shop in Tampa? Or any meets hopefully a car audio show near me?
Will I be happy with 24bit for a Head Unit or should I get a single-din that has a larger bit rating, apple car play looks like it's really fun.
What sites do you guys use for HD music downloads?
Always looking for raw driver suggestions guys that aren't too pricy and have really good chart readings. They are very appreciated. Midbass / tweeters / midrange.

Why a 14 channel DSP? Do you have 14 channels of amplification? What are the locations of the speakers going to be?

Re: need suggestions for mid range drivers and some tweeters. Ohh... and everything e
Slo-blow , fast blow fuses matched to wire (amount of current).
24-bit is great.
I have never heard mono midbass?
Some pay to listen service like Sirius for HD.
Use google for car audio shops (ask em about real time analyzer)analyzer, if they don`t come right back on RTA, find another shop.

I have a really nice option of placing the midbass in a box under the rear seats. Tons of space. Is this a bad idea? It would look really classy.
