I updated my deadening plan slightly to add a better thermal barrier to the interior firewall location. Its called Under Carpet Lite from DEI. Most dampeners provide some thermal blockage, but I want to kill the heat too. Its advertised to be good for sound blocking as well.

Not much of an update, but I've had a bug to go after rattles in the A-pillars and the sunroof trim.
Left and right A-pillars are treated the same with some DampPro. The right one is not quite finished in the pic. The first one was a pain to remove because I tried the hard way to remove the clips. Second one took no time. :D

After adding dampening to the sunroof trim and ensolite peel and stick, I decided to dampen the bracket that the trim is attached to. I'll see tomorrow how effective these additions are. The sunroof trim attaches to the other side of the three white plastic thingies.

Subscribed. Glad to see another R53 owner on here.

Just ordered some of these Posi-lock connectors, http://www.posi-products.com/images/lock2-2.jpg for my speaker connections.
They are solderless, reusable, and tested to SAE standards for Salt Spray, Immersion & Splash, Dust, Sand & Gravel Bombardment, Mechanical Vibration, Mechanical Shock, and Temperature.

Interesting. Would like to hear more about them. I am Posi-lock-curious now

I found them after poking around. They are popular for motorcycles. I figure the motorcycle environment is a little more stressing than an RC car track.

So hows about a three-year bump?! :woohoo:
The only “progress” I made since was to get some more dampening materials from SDS, including butyl rope for the door panel braces.
I found a good looking (at least based on their website) car audio shop recently, www.explicitcustoms.com, and decided to contact them. I stopped by this morning to see if they would install my gear. The showroom was large, clean and not overly packed. JL, Alpine, and Focal comprise most of their offerings. Stinger products are available for install. Their work area is large, fitting two cars, a large truck, and a boat. The wood working area is adjacent to the work area, but sorta closed off. I saw some of their builds, an amp rack on the truck and a water damage repair on a sedan. I liked what I saw, the layouts and routings were clean with bundling and regular tie downs.
They would install my gear, the Hybrid LIV2 tweets, the Genesis 6x9 subs, and the Ground Zero and Helix B2 amps. He recommended the Helix to drive the tweeters and the GZ for midrange and bass duty. Fan(s) would be installed to keep down amp temps. I’m not sure how the tweeter install will turn out with the restrictive MINI grilles and the shape of the tweeters. I may just have them mount the tweeters without the factory plastic and redo it at some future time. They will also check the equipment and do a basic tune. There was not a hint of upselling through the entire visit.
I told the boss about the quote and she said go ahead, you’ve had the gear so long it would be waste. She is the best!
So next Friday is when I’ll bring the car in and they will have it at least for a couple days.

Sounds good. Looking forward to pictures.
