Notloudenuf’s Deck rebuild and Expansion
I love building stuff. I’m probably not the best at anything but I will study all of the right things and bother all of the right people until I figure out the best way to accomplish something.
Our house had a deck. It was 8x12, it had built in benches on the side, and it was all treated wood. With the way our house is facing the deck is on the north side so it was at least ½ in the shade almost all day. When it was being used for summer time there was 40” of light hitting the deck. Not much good if you wanted to sunbathe.
So I started researching last summer and came up with a plan.
Here are some pictures.

During that time the Trex decking that I wanted went on sale. So a big chunk of change and a trailer trip to Lowe’s I had this.

Painted the tops of the joists so they won’t show through the decking boards. You'll also notice the important part of deck building. The flashing up against the house so the sill doesn't rot out.

Got a bit more done today. A friend of mine and my neighbor came over and helped me put up the very heavy outside trim boards. Also got the tall post sleeves on as well.
